Who’s experience should you rely on when creating an IAP?

Relying on the experience of other personnel when creating an Incident Action Plan (IAP) is essential because these individuals are typically trained and familiar with emergency response protocols. They bring valuable knowledge about the situation, the resources available, and techniques that can be employed to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the operation. These personnel may have firsthand experience with similar incidents, making their input crucial for identifying risks and establishing competent strategies.

By drawing on the expertise of trained responders, the IAP can be more informed and comprehensive. Other personnel can provide insights into logistical support, resource management, communication strategies, and specific roles and responsibilities vital to the effective execution of the plan. In contrast, relying on bystanders, family members, or government regulators may not provide the same level of relevant and actionable information necessary for the development of a robust and effective IAP.
